Pope to undergo surgery after lump found on lung
SUMMARY
Pope Leo XIV, 71, announced plans for surgery to remove a localized lung nodule found during medical checks. He stated, "The doctors believe it would be right to intervene," and the operation is scheduled soon with a recovery time of about one week.
Lung nodules are small abnormal areas often detected via CT scans.
Since becoming the first US pope in 2025, Leo has addressed many global issues. He has been a vocal critic of the US-Iran conflict, condemning Donald Trump's threats toward Iran as “truly unacceptable” and urging for peace.
In response, Trump called the Pope “WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy,” but Leo maintained he has a “moral duty to speak out.”
